Relief and Aid International, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has embarked on a life-changing community project to provide safe water to the people of the Miekpor traditional area at Okushibiade in the Ga West municipality of Greater Accra Region.
The charity organisation inaugurated a newly constructed borehole for the community to provide potable water in place of the unsafe sources of water that have been used over the years.
The launch of the Philanthropic mission was funded by an American Health Practitioner and member of the Foundation, Deeann Dawn Jones.
The foundation was established by Madam Peggy Anna Naa Ayikailey Adamafio, about three years ago to provide sustainable interventions to Communities and support the Livelihoods of the poor and needy in society.
In her address at the launch ceremony, lady Justice, Julia Naa Yarley Adjei- Amoah, said that water is life and bringing water to members of the Miekpor traditional area would go a long way to transform the lives of its inhabitants making living easier than it was before. She thanked the sponsors of the projects and the founder of the NGO for their benevolence and charged the inhabitants to take good care of it.
On his part, former Mayor of Accra, Prof. Ishmael Ashitey, intimated that every community deserves access to potable water and that the people must demand from their leaders what is rightfully theirs.
He and other speakers also entreated the community to take good care of the infrastructure so that it lasts long and serves its purpose.
Chief of Miekpor, Togbe Gasu Afeti III, on behalf of the community expressed his profound gratitude for the kind gesture and ensured the donors that the leadership of the community would ensure the mechanized borehole is managed well for longevity.
Also present at the event were, and Professor Harriet Knight, CARA Lee, and Doctor OWUSU all from the United States of America.
Queenship Enstoolment
As a gesture to express satisfaction with the benevolent exercise and to motivate the giver to continue to do more for the communities in the locality, the traditional council honoured Deeann Dawn Jones, with ‘development queen’ and conferred with the title – Naa Dede Oboshie II, for her good work.
In 2022, the foundation commissioned two boreholes for the people of Danchira and extended electricity to Joma, all in the Ga West rural areas.
Other CSR activities of the foundation include the connectivity of street lights to the entire village of Tupa, and the distribution of over 10000 nose masks in Gamashi – OSU, La, Teshie, and Nungua.
It also donated large quantities of rice, cooking oil, canned fish, and Cash in envelopes among others at Oduman.
The founder, a US-Based Ghanaian Philanthropist, Madam Peggy Naa Ayikailey Adamafio, has yet again proudly offered full scholarships to six ladies for their nursing education. The scholarship covers tuition, books, uniforms, and other expenses.
Already, three orphans are at the University of Ghana and KNUST studying on full scholarships.
