The semi-final stage of the RENFAG Oldies League delivered thrilling action at the La Mac Dan AstroTurf over the weekend, with SCC Sunday Stars Oldies and La Salem Oldies securing spots in the final.

On Saturday, Madina Oldies were handed a humbling 4-0 defeat by the in-form SCC Sunday Stars Oldies. The Madina side struggled to keep up with the pace and experience of their opponents, who put on a clinical display of veteran football.

La Salem Oldies, meanwhile, booked their place in the final with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ashaiman Oldies on Sunday. In a tightly contested affair, La Salem managed to hold their nerve and find the back of the net, edging past their opponents to secure the win.

The matches featured several notable retired players. For La Salem Oldies, former Liberty Professionals goalkeeper Kotei Blankson, ex-Goldfields and Kaizer Chiefs defender Jonathan Quartey, Edward Sasu of Great Olympics fame, and veterans James Tagoe, Adolph Adjei, and Kojo Lee were among the experienced footballers who took to the field.

On the side of Ashaiman Oldies, Isaac Boakye, formerly of New Edubiase United, joined forces with Charles Dzisah and Michael Appiah Kubi, who enjoyed stints in India and Thailand, respectively. Other stars included former Asante Kotoko captain Godwin Ablordey, Yaw Akoto, Nicholas Addo, and Sabashi, who previously played for Accra Hearts of Oak.

With both teams now set for the final showdown, fans eagerly await another exciting clash to determine the champions of this season’s RENFAG Oldies League.

The RENFAG Oldies League continue to enjoy support from the GFA Foundation following their partnership last year.

The Association will continue to provide trophies, medals, and plaques for the winners and award-winning categories, as well as footballs for the competition, a commitment that was delivered last season.

SCC Sunday Stars Oldies will lock horns with La Salem Oldies in the finals of the RENFAG Oldies League on October 5, 2024 at the La Mac Dan AstroTurf.
