Voting is underway in the rescheduled District Level Elections in some Electoral Areas in the Ashanti region. In the Mampong Municipality alone, the exercise is being held in about 19 Electoral Areas including that of Nintin.
According to our Regional Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu, only 16 out of the 35 Electoral Areas within the Municipality could hold their local level polls last Tuesday for certain reasons. Reports indicate that the atmosphere at all the Centres have been friendly and calm with the voting process being smooth so far, except few cases of difficulty of the Biometric Verification Device (BVD) identifying prospective voters.
In a handful of instances, such voters had to be verified via photo capturing with the device following failure to identify them biometrically. Interestingly, the aged defied the severe cold weather to even be the first to report at the Centers.
As at 12:10 P.M, a total of 152 out of the registered 481 voters at the Hwidiem M/A Primary School Centre, had casted their votes. A total of 135 electorates had voted as against the roll of 561 at the the Nintin R/C, as at 10.30 am with 95 out of the expected 461 voters successfully casting their ballot at the Nintin M/A JHS Centre.
Security presence is high while election officials have had no issue with Agents of the Candidates so far.
