Renowned Ghanaian reggae and Afro-roots artist Rocky Dawuni has once again made history, earning his fourth Grammy nomination for the 2025 Grammy Awards. His song “Rise” has been recognized in the Best Global Music Performance category, marking yet another milestone in his impressive career.
Dawuni’s Grammy journey began in 2015, when his album “Branches of the Same Tree” received a nomination for Best Reggae Album. In 2021, he was nominated in the Best Global Music Album category for his album “Voice of Bunbon Vol. 1.” Most recently, in 2023, his song “Never Bow Down” was nominated for Best Global Music Performance. With this latest nomination, Dawuni continues to cement his legacy as a global music ambassador, proudly representing Ghana on the world stage.
This year, Dawuni joins a distinguished lineup of international artists in the Best Global Music Performance category. Competing alongside him are Angélique Kidjo & Soweto Gospel Choir with “Sunlight to My Soul,” Arooj Aftab with “Raat Ki Rani,” Jacob Collier featuring Anoushka Shankar & Varijashree Venugopal with “A Rock Somewhere,” Masa Takumi featuring Ron Korb, Noshir Mody & Dale Edward Chung with “Kashira,” and Sheila E. featuring Gloria Estefan & Mimy Succar with “Bemba Colorá.”
In the Best African Music Performance category, some of Africa’s top talents have also been recognized, including Asake & Wizkid for “MMS,” Burna Boy for “Higher,” Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay for “Sensational,” Tems for “Love Me JeJe,” and Yemi Alade for “Tomorrow.”
The 2025 Grammy Awards will take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Dawuni’s ongoing recognition by the Recording Academy highlights his influence on the global music scene and his dedication to promoting Ghanaian music internationally.
