Sacking Yaw Preko was not the cause of our problems – Great Olympics

The spokesperson for Great Olympics Saint Osei has defended the club’s decision to part ways with Yaw Preko explaining that it is not the cause of their struggles in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

The former Hearts of Oak player replaced Annor Walker as head coach at the beginning of the season but suffered notable losses which prompted the management of the club to cut ties with him in February.

Bismark Kobi Mensah took over with the aim of restoring the club’s fortunes but has failed to succeed in bouncing the Wonder Club back.

Despite relocating to Sogakope Park from the Accra Sports Stadium for their home matches, the two-time Ghana Premier League champions are still facing relegation as they sit 16th with 42 points.

“We didn’t have anything against Yaw [Preko] and I have minutes to back this. Before you hire a coach, there are clauses that both parties agree on. For instance ‘in the event where you are unable to amass this number of points, this is what is going to happen’. So if the coach agrees and we tell him to step down it doesn’t mean we have something against him,” he told Peace FM.

“Yaw is a good coach but sometimes the technique you adopt may not yield the desired results. So the coach is supposed to be relieved of his work so that his mind can be refreshed.

“It will interest you to know that Yaw Preko can take another team and win the league with them that is why we don’t sack coaches but sit with them and agree together to part ways.

Great Olympics will welcome Msoatreman on Sunday at the Sogakope Park as they aim to retain their Ghana Premier League status.
