Ghanaian duo Ebenezer Annan and Augustine Boakye have both earned invites to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico on May 22.

The two Saint-Étienne players were included in the debut squad named by new Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz after impressive performances in France this season. Both players are also hoping to push for places in Ghana’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, the duo are unlikely to honour the invitation due to Saint-Étienne’s involvement in the Ligue 2 promotion playoffs as the French club fights for a return to the topflight.

The Greens are expected to face the winner between Red Star FC and Rodez AF in the playoffs, with reports suggesting the club is unwilling to release the Ghanaian pair for the Mexico friendly.

The possible absence of Annan and Boakye could force the Black Stars technical team to consider alternative options ahead of the international fixture later this month.

The Black Stars will take on Mexico on May 22 as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
