Organsied Labour has re-echoed that, the sale of the SSNIT hotels is not in the best interest of the Ghanaian workers, therefore, every move targeted at selling the shares of the hotels should be squashed.

They have asked all workers in Ghana to from Monday, 15th July, 2024 desist from going to work.

“From Monday, 15th July, 2024 all workers in Ghana must not go to work until SSNIT publicly announces the termination of theprocess for the sale of its shares in the hotels,” the statement stated.

In a joint press statement dated 12th July, 2024, the Labour Unions stated that, the management of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) must terminate all processes with immediate effect.

The call comes in the wake of the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, stated on the floor of Parliament that the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) have given approval for the sale of SSNIT hotels to Rock City, a hotel belonging to Member of Parliament for Abetifi constituency and the Minister in charge of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong.

“Organised labour would like to reiterate its well-known position that the proposed sale of SSNIT’s shares in the four hotels is not in the best interest of Ghanaian workers.

“We, therefore, demand that SSNIT terminates the process immediately”.
