Rain may have disrupted the schedule at GhanaFest Toronto, but it failed to dampen the spirit of one of the festival’s biggest attractions as Ghanaian reggae and dancehall star Samini delivered an electrifying performance that left fans with lasting memories.
Persistent rainfall throughout the day forced organizers to cancel the festival’s scheduled opening acts. With only a brief break in the weather, organizers approached Samini to find out if he would still be willing to perform.
Without hesitation, the award-winning musician agreed.
Seizing the narrow window before the rain returned, Samini took to the stage alongside the Rhythm Section Band, delivering a powerful live set that transformed a challenging day into an unforgettable celebration of Ghanaian music and culture.
Performing a catalogue of fan favourites, Samini once again demonstrated why he remains one of Africa’s finest live performers. Backed by the exceptional Rhythm Section Band, whose impeccable musicianship and dynamic arrangements elevated every performance, the singer kept the crowd captivated as fans sang along from start to finish, refusing to let the weather diminish the experience.
One of the evening’s standout moments came midway through the performance when Samini surprised the audience by inviting legendary Ghanaian hiplife artiste Dogo onto the stage. A celebrated figure from Ghana’s late-1990s and early-2000s hiplife era, Dogo is widely recognised for his collaborations with Obrafour and his association with The Last Two Music Group, the pioneering record label founded by acclaimed producer Hammer of The Last Two. The surprise appearance drew thunderous applause from the crowd and served as a nostalgic celebration of a defining chapter in Ghana’s music history.
Following his performance, Samini extended the experience by making a special appearance at the official Samini x AIM merchandise booth, where he met fans, posed for photographs, and personally signed T-shirts purchased from the exclusive collection. The interaction turned every item into a treasured keepsake while giving supporters a rare opportunity to connect with the celebrated musician.
The limited-edition Samini x AIM Collection, created by Clothing By AIM, emerged as one of the festival’s most popular attractions, with many attendees proudly sporting the exclusive designs throughout the event.
