Ghana-eligible defender Ewan Otoo has completed a move to English League One side Rotherham United after signing a two-year contract with the club, subject to EFL and FA ratification as well as international clearance.The 23-year-old, who was born in Glasgow but is eligible to represent Ghana, has joined the Millers after impressing the club’s coaching staff during a successful pre-season trial.Rotherham also hold the option to extend his stay by a further year.Otoo officially becomes a Rotherham player ahead of the club’s pre-season friendly against Derby County, with manager Matt Hamshaw rewarding the versatile defender for his performances during his trial period.The left-sided defender began his football journey in the Celtic academy, joining the Scottish champions at the age of eight before signing his first professional contract nine years later.During his time at Celtic, he represented Scotland at Under-17 level and captained the club’s B team in the Lowland League.To accelerate his development, Otoo enjoyed loan spells with Clyde and Dunfermline Athletic, where he earned praise for his maturity and consistency.His time at Dunfermline proved particularly successful, helping the club win the Scottish League One title and secure promotion to the Championship during the 2022/23 season.Following that campaign, Dunfermline signed him on a permanent basis, and he established himself as a key member of the squad.Across the last three seasons, Otoo made 78 league appearances and featured a further 23 times in domestic cup competitions.Known for his versatility, Otoo is capable of playing anywhere across the back four, while also operating in central midfield and on the left side of midfield when required.Although he has represented Scotland at youth level, Otoo remains eligible to play for Ghana through his family heritage, making him another potential option for the Black Stars in the future should he switch his international allegiance.
