The Senegal Football Federation (FSF) has dismissed head coach Pape Thiaw and his entire technical staff with immediate effect following the country’s disappointing performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The decision brings an end to Thiaw’s spell in charge after the Lions of Teranga failed to meet expectations at the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Senegal managed just one victory from their four matches, recording an emphatic 5-0 win over Iraq during the group stage but suffering defeats in their other three games.
Their World Cup journey came to an end in the Round of 32 after surrendering a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 to Belgium, ending hopes of progressing further in the competition.
The early exit has prompted the Senegalese football authorities to make sweeping changes, with the federation relieving both Thiaw and his backroom staff of their duties.
The FSF is now expected to begin the search for a new head coach as Senegal turns its attention to upcoming international assignments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and preparations for future major tournaments.
Earlier this year, Pape Thiaw led the Teranga Lions to Afrifa Cup of Nations triumph, beating Morocco in the final but CAF later changed the results to rule the Atlas Lions as champions.
