Spanish Gaint Barcelona took a trip to the Volksparkstadion to face Shakhtar Donetsk as part of their chances of securing a safe ticket to the round of 16, but the home side had other plans too.
Shakhtar gave Barcelona a run for their money by scoring a goal in the dying minutes of the first half. They were solid in all departments, although Barcelona controlled the tempo of the whole game but couldn’t get themselves on the scoresheet.
Sikan, who got the goal for Shakhtar, jumped high behind Andreas Christensen to meet Gocholeishvili’s cross and nodded the ball into the net of Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Barcelona were gradually missing their target in front of goal, which forced their coach, Xavi, to make some changes by bringing Joao Felix and Lamine Yamal on to give his team some spark in front of goal.
Shakhtar held their grip, took the game to the final minute, and secured all three points. This result pushed them to 6 points, which reduced their deficit to 3 behind Porto and Barca, respectfully.
