Ghanaian songstress Sista Afia was crowned Best Female Artiste of the Year at the 2023 Ghana Entertainment Awards USA (GEA USA) on Saturday, July 2, 2023.
The awards ceremony was held at the Merkin Hall, Kaufman Music Centre in New York City.Sista Afia was up against a strong field of nominees, including Gyakie, Piesie Esther, Amaarae, MzVee, Wendy Shay, and Wiyaala.
However, she emerged victorious thanks to her string of hit singles, including “Corner Corner,Sika, Asuoden and ‘Jeje’
In her acceptance speech, the ‘Jeje’ hitmaker thanked her fans, her management team.
“This award means so much to me,” she said. “It’s a validation of all the hard work that I’ve put in over the years. I’m so grateful to my fans for their support, and I’m excited to continue making music that makes them proud.”
Her win at the GEA USA is a sign that Ghanaian music is on the rise, and that Sista Afia is one of the leading lights of the next generation of Ghanaian artists.
In addition to winning Best Female Artiste of the Year, Sista Afia also put up an electrifying performance on the night. She sang a medley of her hit singles, and her performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience.
