Southampton coach Russell Martin remains hopeful that Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana will recover swiftly after being withdrawn during the team’s 2-0 pre-season defeat to Oxford United.

The 22-year-old former FC Nordsjaelland winger suffered an ankle injury following a collision with an Oxford player and was seen in a boot outside the Kassam Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Forced off in the first half, Sulemana was replaced by Sam Edozie as Southampton continued the match with only 10 players.

The injury comes after a challenging 2023/24 season for Kamaldeen Sulemana, who struggled with fitness issues and made just 10 starts for Saints in the Championship.

Coach Martin addressed the injury post-match, telling the Daily Echo, “They were both contacts. Hopefully, they’re not too bad. They’re both ankle rolls. “They’re both walking out of here and they both walked off the pitch, so hopefully they’ll be okay.”

Kamaldeen Sulemana might miss Southampton’s upcoming pre-season friendly against Millwall at The Den on Saturday, August 3.
