Mary Rivera, the actress who appeared as Ned Leeds’s grandmother in Spider-Man: No Way Home, has died at the age of 82.
According to an obituary published by her family, Rivera was born on 2 June 1943 in Iloilo, Philippines, and died on 15 April in Honolulu, Hawaii. A relative told TMZ that she suffered a stroke and was later placed on life support. The family said she had been “extremely proud” of her role in the film and regarded it as one of her greatest achievements.
Rivera appeared in a memorable scene alongside Andrew Garfield, Jacob Batalon and Zendaya. In the sequence, Garfield’s Peter Parker is asked by Ned’s grandmother, through Ned’s translation, to climb onto the ceiling and remove a cobweb from a hard-to-reach corner, providing a moment of humour amid the film’s tension.

Tributes posted on Rivera’s obituary page described her as a mentor, colleague and beloved family member who would be “missed tremendously”. She is survived by her husband, Alejandro Rivera, and her children Carmela Jones, Paul Rivera, Edwin Rivera and Angela Kelly.
