Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has dismissed suggestions that he played any role in the selection of the Black Stars squad currently preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars are currently in Cardiff with a provisional 28-man squad ahead of their international friendly against Wales, with head coach Carlos Queiroz expected to trim the squad by two players before submitting the final 26-man list for the tournament.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, the Buem Constituency Member of Parliament insisted he had no influence over the selection process, pointing to the omission of former captain Andre Ayew as evidence.

“Andre Ayew missing out on the Black Stars should tell you that I had no influence on the selection. I am a minister and a Ghanaian football fan so I can also speak my mind but it should end there,” Adams said.

His comments come amid discussions surrounding the composition of Ghana’s World Cup squad, with several notable names making the provisional list while others were left out ahead of the tournament.

The Black Stars will face Wales on June 2 in their final warm-up match before departing for North America, where they will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining Group L fixtures.
