Sports and Recreation Minister of Ghana, Hon. Kofi Adams has thrown his support behind Carlos Queiroz remaining as Black Stars head coach following Ghana’s encouraging campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced Portuguese tactician was appointed on a short-term contract in April after Otto Addo’s dismissal, with the immediate responsibility of leading the Black Stars at the tournament in North America.
Under Queiroz, Ghana made a positive start by defeating Panama 1-0 before earning a goalless draw against England.
Although the Black Stars suffered a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group match, they advanced to the Round of 32 as one of the tournament’s best third-placed teams.
Ghana’s World Cup journey eventually came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout stage, but Kofi Adams believes the team’s progress under Queiroz is enough reason for him to continue in the role.
“We should give Carlos Queiroz the opportunity to stay a bit longer. He has proven that a coach matters,” the Sports Minister said.
The Black Stars are now expected to shift their focus to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they have been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Somalia and The Gambia, with the qualifying campaign scheduled to begin in September.
