Former AshantiGold SC and Bibiani Gold Stars midfielder Stephen Owusu Banahene has completed a move to Myanmar powerhouse Shan United as he returns to competitive football.
The lanky middleman switches to one of Myanmar’s most successful clubs and is set to feature in the AFC Champions League next season following Shan United’s qualification for the continental competition.
Banahene was a member of the Bibiani Gold Stars squad that won the Ghana Premier League title in the 2024/25 season, playing his part in one of the club’s most memorable achievements.
However, the 31-year-old spent the just-ended season without a club and away from competitive action, making his move to Shan United an important step in reviving his career.
The midfielder now has the opportunity to bring his experience and leadership qualities to a side aiming to make an impact both domestically and on the continental stage.
His arrival is expected to strengthen Shan United’s midfield options as the club prepares for another demanding campaign, including participation in the AFC Champions League.
