Stormzy’s iconic stab-proof vest, designed by Banksy and worn during his 2019 Glastonbury headline performance, is set to go on display as part of The Music Is Black: A British Story.
The exhibition opens on April 18 at the newly launched V&A East museum in London’s Olympic Park, marking its debut showcase.
Described as a landmark exhibition, The Music Is Black explores over a century of Black British music, highlighting themes of resilience, creativity, and cultural impact.
Stormzy’s vest, featuring a spray-painted Union Jack, stands as a powerful symbol of identity and social commentary, reflecting the intersection of music, art, and activism.

The exhibition will feature more than 200 items, including stage outfits, musical instruments, handwritten lyrics, and rare photographs from influential artists across generations. Curated as a multi-sensory experience, it celebrates the evolution and global influence of Black British music while telling stories of struggle, ambition, and artistic breakthrough.
