At least three Ghanaian players will feature in the next phase of the UEFA Champions League with the draw for the round of 16 to be held on Friday, February 27, at UEFA headquarters in Nyon.
Kamaldeen Sulemana became the latest to secure qualification after Atalanta BC staged a dramatic comeback to eliminate Borussia Dortmund. Having trailed 2-0 from the first leg, the Serie A side responded with a 4-1 victory in Bergamo to advance 4-3 on aggregate. Sulemana featured as a late substitute, replacing Nicola Zalewski for the final 14 minutes.
He joins Antoine Semenyo of Manchester City FC and Mohammed Kudus of Tottenham Hotspur FC as the Ghanaian contingent in the last 16.
Atalanta will face either Arsenal FC or Bayern Munich, both of whom advanced automatically after finishing first and second in the league phase. Arsenal won all eight of their group matches.
Since joining Atalanta from Southampton FC in July 2025, Sulemana has made 22 appearances in all competitions, including five in the Champions League.
