Swedish referee Glenn Nyberg has been appointed to officiate Ghana’s opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama on Wednesday, June 17.

Nyberg will be assisted by his compatriots Mahbod Beigi and Andreas Söderkvist, who have been named as assistant referees for the Group L encounter. Saudi Arabian official Khalid Alturais will serve as the fourth official.

The Black Stars will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama at Toronto’s BMO Field on June 17, with both sides eager to make a winning start to the tournament.

Ghana are making their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and will be aiming to secure an early advantage in a competitive Group L that also features England and Croatia.

Carlos Queiroz’s side head into the fixture full of confidence and will hope to begin their campaign with all three points before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
