TaTU finally gets their win at Honda Football Championship 2026

It has been a tough tournament for Tamale Technical University (TaTU), but on Match Day 3, they showed exactly why you should never count a team out on their home ground.

TaTU entered the 2026 Honda Football Championship following two difficult defeats. On Match Day 1, they were beaten 2-0 by the University of Ghana (UG) without registering a single goal, leaving the pitch deflated but not defeated.

Match Day 2 brought some improvement as they scored against the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS), but still fell short, losing 2-1.

That goal, however small it seemed, gave TaTU something to hold on to, and they carried that belief into Match Day 3.

On match day three (3) Thursday, 27th March at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium, TaTU finally got the result they had been working for. They faced the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) with hunger and determination, and it showed from the very first whistle.

TaTU’s number 13, Kumo Ba Isaac, gave TaTU the lead in the 18th minute, scoring TaTU’s first goal of the tournament and sending his teammates into a frenzy.

That goal lit a fire under the side. Just 11 minutes later, number 11 Alhassan Fuseini added a second to double the advantage and pile the pressure firmly on UMaT.

UMaT refused to go quietly and pushed hard to get back into the game, but TaTU stood firm and defended their lead. UMaT did manage to pull one back through Oduro Godfred in the 52nd minute, setting up a tense finish, but it was not enough. TaTU held on to win 2-1 and claim their first victory of the 2026 Honda Football Championship.

After the heartbreak of Match Days 1 and 2, this win means everything to TaTU. They came, they fought and they delivered. The tournament just got more interesting.
