Former spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Kwesi Kwarteng, has stated that Ghanaian teacher and content creator, Teacher Kwadwo was dismissed by the Ghana Education Service due to prolonged absenteeism, not for political reasons as widely believed.
Speaking on TV3’s NewDay programme on Wednesday, April 22, Mr. Kwarteng addressed ongoing conversations about discipline, suspensions, and transfers within Ghana’s public school system. He emphasized that public sector workers, including teachers and headteachers, are subject to strict professional standards and disciplinary procedures.
“We create an impression as though when you come into government or public service, somehow you become immune to disciplinary measures,” he said.
Mr. Kwarteng used the case of Teacher Kwadwo as a reference point, dismissing claims that his termination was linked to criticism of the erstwhile Nana Akufo-Addo administration. Instead, he alleged that the dismissal stemmed from a failure to report to duty over an extended period.
“There is a guy called Teacher Kwadwo, and when he was sacked… for about a year he had not been at post. No institution anywhere in the world will normalise that,” he claimed.
Beyond the individual case, Kwarteng also raised concerns about what he described as growing indiscipline within the education sector. He criticized situations where school heads bypass official communication channels to resolve internal challenges, particularly by involving political groups.
“If a headmaster believed that there is no food in the school, there are channels of communication… You don’t go and invite a political party to come and talk to students. Would that solve the problem?” he questioned.

He added that such actions undermine institutional order and should attract firm sanctions.
“If a headmaster does this and I’m the Minister for Education or the GES boss, I will sack him… Why are we doing so much indiscipline?” he stated.
Teacher Kwadwo, known for his engaging and humorous educational content on social media, gained national attention for creatively highlighting classroom experiences. His abrupt disappearance from the public space in recent years fueled speculation about the circumstances surrounding his exit from the classroom, with multiple unverified claims circulating at the time.
