Fire has broken out at the Techiman Central Market in the Bono East Region.
According to eyewitness’ report that the blaze has consumed numerous shops, causing extensive damage to goods and properties.
Emergency services are on-site, striving to control the inferno and prevent its spread to adjacent areas, the Divisional Officer I (DOI) Alex King Nartey, from the GNFS Public Relations Department confirmed.
The latest market fire is part of a troubling pattern of market fires in Ghana over recent weeks. On January 2, 2025, Accra’s Kantamanto Market, renowned as one of the world’s largest secondhand clothing hubs, was devastated by a massive fire.
The blaze destroyed hundreds of stalls, impacting thousands of traders and causing significant economic losses.
The recurrence of such fires has raised concerns among traders, citizens, and authorities regarding the safety measures and infrastructure of these vital commercial centers.
Investigations are underway to determine the causes of these fires and to develop strategies to prevent future occurrences.
