As part of implementing the Women’s Football Strategy, the Technical Directorate visited Alajo One Basic School, Accra, and presented the Women’s Football Strategy at the P.T.A to engage the parents of the pupils.
Jennifer Amankwaa Sarpong, Women’s Football Development Manager, took the parents and the teachers through the Strategy’s overview, vision, mission, the six pillars, what has been achieved or implemented so far, and the future plan.
She said the Women’s Football Strategy is a four-year developmental pathway that offers a well-structured development plan for Women’s football in Ghana.
‘’Our vision is to establish the national teams as a dominant force on a global scale and consistently maintain among the top three Women’s football nations in Africa’’ she said.
‘’Our main objectives are, Grassroots football, Talent Identification Pathway, League Development, Education, Marketing, and National Teams’’.
‘’We have been able to launch the main football strategy document, introduce Grassroots football: Football 4 Girls project in 7 regions, Capacity building course for Division One female Administrators, Free License ‘D’ Coaching courses for females at the regional level, incorporation of the Catch Them Young Referee Policy, and Launch the FIFA Women’s Football Campaign at Kumasi’’ Jennifer added.
She further mentioned that the GFA will soon Introduce League Development: Girls Colts League or U-13, U-15, and U-17, engage young girls to inspire and empower them to play football, train more female coaches and referees, Educate to dispel the misconceptions of girls and females playing football using Ambassadors and Coaches’ Mentorship education for females.
Madam Bernice Bempa, GFA Safeguarding Officer, also took the parents and the teachers through her presentation. She assured the parents that there are measures to protect the girls from harm or abuse through appropriate preventions. She further added that the GFA is doing everything possible to protect the well-being of all players and to prevent any kind of harm or abuse from happening, such as physical, sexual, emotional abuse, neglect, trafficking, and exploitation.
After the presentations, the girls played football. Footballs were given to the school, and T-shirts were given to parents and teachers for awareness creation.
