Ghanaian movie producer Koby Maxwell has shared an unexpected detail about his past, revealing he spent a year as a band member for Highlife legend Kojo Antwi.
Koby is a gifted bass player, singer, lyricist and composer. He has shared the stage with prestigious artistes like Nancy Wilson, Chaka Khan and Dionne Sanchez, Ziggy and Stephen Marley Bunny Wailer and African legend Salif Keita.
As a filmmaker, he is known for movies including The Wrong One (2018), CJ’s Dream to Hollywood (2015) and One Night in Vegas (2013).
Speaking on The Chat -hosted by Ekow Koomson on Channel One TV, Kobby Maxwell while revealing his transition from a musician to a movie producer explained how he played in the same band with Kojo Antwi.
According to him,” Well I was in a band called Amazing 6 with Kwame Yeboah… We used to open the show for Kojo Antwi’s 24-Night Concert at the National Theatre ..one time he had a show in London and he couldn’t have his regular band’s men he plays with so he selected us to jam with him.”
Kobby Maxwell stressed that the Music Maestro had not used a local band until that opportunity came and “because he already knew we were good he decided to play with us”.
The movie producer explained extensively that he played with ‘Afra Franto’ crooner for a year where they stayed in the UK for 6 months and moved to the US for another 6 months.
