The Law Institute has relaunched its operations as a vocational legal and compliance training institution in Ghana, while officially opening enrolment for its inaugural 2026 cohort set to commence on June 1, 2026.
The relaunch introduces five professionally accredited programmes aimed at addressing skills gaps in legal practice, compliance, governance, finance and gender policy advocacy within Ghana and the wider West African region.
A key highlight of the relaunch is the institution’s partnership with the International Compliance Association (ICA), described as the first collaboration of its kind in West Africa. Through the partnership, students will have access to internationally recognised ICA-certified qualifications aligned with global compliance and regulatory standards.
The institute said the partnership also links its programmes to the University of Manchester, giving students exposure to internationally benchmarked training and certification.
The 2026 cohort will offer five specialised programmes including the Paralegal Studies Programme, Compliance and Regulatory Practice, Corporate Governance Programme, Finance and Securitisation Programme, and Gender Analysis, Policy and Advocacy Programme.
According to the institute, the Paralegal Studies Programme is designed to provide foundational legal knowledge and practical skills for aspiring paralegals and legal support professionals.
The Compliance and Regulatory Practice programme will focus on anti-money laundering and counter-financing of terrorism frameworks, regulatory compliance and institutional risk management.
The Corporate Governance Programme will provide training in governance frameworks, board effectiveness and corporate accountability for professionals and company directors.
The Finance and Securitisation Programme will offer advanced knowledge in financial law, structured finance and securitisation principles targeted at finance and legal professionals.
Meanwhile, the Gender Analysis, Policy and Advocacy programme is intended to equip professionals with expertise at the intersection of gender, law and policy to support inclusive institutional development.
Rector of the institute, Hilary Gbedemah, described the relaunch as a major step for legal and compliance education in Ghana.
“The relaunch of The Law Institute represents a defining moment for legal and compliance education in Ghana. Our ICA and University of Manchester partnership places TLI students on the international stage, and our programmes are designed to produce professionals who are not only technically competent but genuinely equipped to navigate and shape Ghana’s evolving regulatory environment,” she said.
She added that the institution was committed to developing the next generation of legal and compliance professionals in the country.
Director of Learning and Strategy at the institute, Sophia Minkah-Premo, said Ghana’s evolving economy and regulatory environment had increased the demand for professionals with expertise in law, governance and compliance.
“Ghana’s economy is increasingly shaped by regulation, compliance obligations and the demand for professionals who understand the law. TLI exists to close the gap between where Ghana’s professionals are today and where the country’s economy needs them to be,” she stated.
She noted that the programmes are structured to accommodate working professionals while maintaining internationally recognised standards.
Beyond individual enrolment, the institute announced tailored corporate training packages for organisations seeking structured legal, compliance, governance and gender mainstreaming education for employees.
According to the institute, group enrolment rates will be available, with programmes adaptable to the training requirements of financial institutions, insurance companies, corporate organisations and public sector institutions.
As part of activities marking the relaunch, the institute will host a free online Open Q&A Session on May 25, 2026, from 10am to 3pm for prospective students, organisations and media practitioners.
The session will allow participants to engage with the institution’s leadership, explore programme offerings and receive guidance on enrolment procedures and corporate training packages.
The institute said registration for the session is available on its official website and encouraged interested applicants to enroll early as spaces for the June 2026 cohort are limited.
