Multiple award-winning songwriter and vocalist Afriyie Wutah has expressed concern that most Ghanaian musicians are not fit for the international market because they are not trained as musicians, but as entertainers.

Speaking on Onua Weekend Party with DJ Willie, Wutah said, “I think the major problem now is we are grooming more entertainers than musicians, most of our current crop of artistes are entertainers, they are not musicians.”

He explained that while entertainers are good at putting on a show, they lack the musicality and technical skills to perform well at live shows. This, he said, is a major obstacle to Ghanaian musicians breaking into the international market.

“As a virtuoso, one must possess the ability to give audiences a great performance during live shows,” Wutah said. “Unfortunately, most of our musicians are unable to do this.”

He cited the example of Ghanaian musicians who have struggled to give good performances at award shows, concerts, and other events. He said that this has led to Ghanaians becoming dissatisfied with the quality of live music in the country.

He urged Ghanaian musicians to learn from other musicians from the continent and beyond who are able to give great live performances. He said that this is essential if Ghanaian musicians want to be successful in the international market.

Afriyie Wutah, a former member of the defunct music group Wutah, has been in the industry for over a decade. He is best known for his amazing vocal delivery and his contributions to the growth of the Ghanaian music industry.
