There are huge opportunities in the tourism sector — Andrew Agyapa

Former Deputy Energy Minister Hon. Andrew Agyapa Mercer has been appointed as the new Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

Hon. Andrew Agyapa’s appointment is part of a wider cabinet reshuffle announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, since assuming office in 2017.

13 current ministers of state, including 13 deputy ministers and two regional ministers, were affected by the reshuffle.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Bernard Avle on the Citi 97.3 FM’s  Breakfast Show, Hon Andrew Agyapa, while answering a question regarding how he feels about his new appointment expressed his excitement about the opportunity and his determination to contribute to the growth of the tourism sector.

“It is a question of how best you apply yourself in what situation you find yourself in..and to that extent I wouldn’t consider my movement from the Ministry of Energy due to day-to-day issues that you’re confronted with … To the Ministry Of Tourism Arts and Culture, I believe there are huge opportunities there”.

After acknowledging the important role that tourism plays in the country, Hon Andrew Agyapa pledged to work hard to expand the sector:

“We all know the role tourism can play and have played in our economy so I see it as an opportunity to do my best… Others have labored and we shared their glory so it’s us to exploit and add to their gain”.He stated
