A 27-year-old man identified as Awudu Baba has allegedly swallowed five SIM cards after he was arrested with five mobile phones suspected to have been stolen in the Awutu Bawjiase area.
Baba was reportedly arrested by police officers on the night of September 19, 2026, at a checkpoint along the Kasoa-Bawjiase Highway.
According to information available on the incident, the suspect was found in possession of five mobile phones believed to have been stolen.
The recovered phones reportedly include an iPhone 6, an iPhone 6 Plus, a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and a Samsung A12.
During the arrest, the police allegedly discovered that the suspect had removed SIM cards from the phones.
He is said to have swallowed five of the SIM cards in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence or prevent investigators from tracing the owners of the devices.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged act have attracted attention as police continue investigations into the suspected theft.
The recovered mobile phones are currently being kept by the police as efforts are made to identify their rightful owners.
The police have subsequently appealed to members of the public who may have lost their phones in the Awutu Bawjiase area to report to the Central East Regional Police Command.
