Former Ghana and Hearts of Oak Dan Quaye has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging Ghanaians to remain patient with the current generation of players.
The former Accra Hearts of Oak defender was a member of Ghana’s historic 2006 FIFA World Cup squad that became the first Black Stars team to compete at football’s biggest tournament.
With Ghana preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, Quaye believes the foundations are being put in place for a successful campaign.
“The management and the leaders are doing their part. It’s up to the players to do theirs,” he said.
Quaye also called on supporters to continue backing the team despite recent criticism, insisting patience will be key to the Black Stars’ success.
“The whole Ghana loved us during our time, but why are these guys not getting the same thing? However, Ghanaians should be patient with them,” he added.
The former defender further highlighted injuries as one of the major setbacks that have affected the national team in recent years and hopes the squad will be fully fit heading into the tournament.
“I hope that we will go to the World Cup with no injuries. Injuries have really affected the team. I am certain that things will change at this World Cup,” Quaye stated.
The Black Stars are currently preparing for the tournament in Cardiff and will face Wales in a pre-World Cup friendly before opening their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17.
Ghana will then take on England and Croatia as they seek to progress beyond the group stage for the first time since 2010.
