General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey is assuring the people of the Volta Region that the next NDC government under John Mahama will prioritize the completion of abandoned projects.
He said more development projects will be added to existing ones in the region.
The NDC General Secretary in an interview with Jubilee Radio in Keta on November 29, asked all Ewes to be proud of their association with the party and know that they have been part of the development trajectory of this country.
“I know my people have few reservations, but this is your party. This is the party that put all tribes and faiths together right from the beginning -a party that believes in inclusion. I want to assure you all that this time, it is not going to be business as usual in the Volta Region and the entire country. We shall tackle our mandate of development and providing jobs head-on,” he assured.
The former Ketu South MP who is currently on a campaign tour of his home region, assured the people that the NDC will right the wrongs in return for their loyalty.
“The government of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia did not develop the Ashanti Region, but the NDC can count the number of projects executed in that region as a nationalist and people-centered party. You should not be surprised why some people there are still proud of the NPP as their party. Let’s face it, some unintentional setbacks occurred. We are here to right the wrongs,” he said.
He intimated that despite the concerns regarding the region’s development, the NDC has performed incredibly better than the NPP, stressing that with a debt status of GHS120billion in 2016, the country showed visible signs of economic growth and development, a situation that is completely different in the case of the NPP government which borrowed close to GHS800 billion but has rather left Ghana’s economy in shambles.
Mr Kwetey who also doubled as the National Campaign Coordinator for the John Mahama campaign assured the people of the region that all critical roads, markets, hospitals, schools and other infrastructure projects will be tackled with all seriousness under President Mahama with specific mention of the Aflao-Ho and Keta-Aflao roads among others.
He said the next NDC government will not engage in deception as seen under the NPP government where they promise a lot but deliver nothing.
On the Keta Harbour project, Mr. Kwetey said proper feasibility studies must be conducted to enable the NDC government have all the sound grounding in project management and framework to enable its effective implementation.
He also assured that the phase two of the sea defense project along the Keta and other coastal belt will be a priority as it was the NDC that did the first phase.
The youth were also reassured that the flagship 24-hour economy policy will provide meaningful jobs for them, while women will benefit greatly from the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank with low-interest loans for their businesses.
“We are a party founded on the principle of truth. So, we will not deceive the people. Let that be the distinction between us and the NPP. This government promised the people of Cape Coast an airport. For eight years they have not delivered and there are many of these failed promises and pledges across the country,” he said.
As part of his tour of the region, Mr. Fifi Kwetey also made a stop at Adina in the Ketu South constituency where he interacted with teeming supporters, mostly fish mongers and businesswomen.
He will later address a rally Ketu South, where thousands including youth and elderly are expected to be in attendance.
The homestretch campaign tour is expected to end in Hohoe on Saturday which will mark the final regional rally for the NDC in the Volta region.
