Ghana international Thomas Partey is expected to leave Villarreal CF at the end of the season after the club reportedly decided against extending his stay.
Partey joined the Spanish outfit last year following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal FC. The experienced midfielder signed a one-year deal that included an option for an additional season.
However, the 31-year-old has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter during his time at Villarreal, largely due to fitness setbacks caused by minor injuries.
Despite making 30 appearances across all competitions, Partey has found it difficult to cement a consistent role in the squad.
With the campaign nearing its conclusion, Villarreal are reportedly unwilling to activate the extension clause in his contract, paving the way for the Ghanaian midfielder to depart as a free agent this summer.
The former Atltico Madrid star is nonetheless expected to remain part of Ghanas plans ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Partey is widely anticipated to be included in Black Stars squad for the tournament as the Black Stars prepare for another appearance on footballs biggest stage.
