Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover has attributed Ghana’s recent struggles at major international tournaments to what he describes as the failure to appoint capable leaders to oversee the country’s sports sector.

Speaking on the Black Stars’ disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Glover claimed he foresaw challenges after Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije was overlooked for the role of Sports Minister.

“When they refused to take him as Sports Minister, I knew we were heading for problems,” Glover said, expressing disappointment over the decision.

According to him, Vanderpuije stood for fairness, discipline and merit-based decision-making, qualities he believes are essential for the effective administration of Ghanaian sports.

Glover argued that the absence of such leadership has contributed to the country’s inconsistent performances at major competitions, including the Black Stars’ latest World Cup campaign.

His comments come amid growing debate over the direction of Ghana football following the national team’s elimination in the Round of 32 after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia.

The remarks are expected to fuel further discussion over leadership, accountability and the reforms needed to restore Ghana’s competitiveness on the international stage following another disappointing tournament exit.
