The assistant coach of Bechem United, Seth Osei, has bemoaned what he describes as the unfair treatment of goalkeepers who play for smaller clubs when it comes to national team call-ups. According to him, goalkeepers who are very good but play for smaller clubs in the Ghana Premier League are often overlooked by national team coaches when it’s time to select players for the national team.Coach Seth Osei insists that this must change.Speaking on the matter last Sunday after a top performance from Bechem United goalkeeper Emmanuel Anning in the 2-1 defeat to FC Samartex, Coach Osei urged national team coaches to give opportunities to good players regardless of the clubs they play for.Keepers who dont play for the top teams are usually overlooked, but thats not right. Even if a player plays for a lower division side and the player is good, I believe they should be selected for the national team, Coach Seth Osei said. This comes ahead of the Black Stars’ return to action later this month. The Stars will compete alongside Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup.Coach Otto Addo is expected to name his squad for the tournament next week and is likely to include a few local players in his squad.
