US President Donald Trump has sparked reactions online after posting an AI-generated image depicting himself in papal attire, just 11 days after the passing of Pope Francis.

The digitally altered image, shared on his official social media account, shows the President dressed in white robes, wearing a papal mitre, and donning a large crucifix around his neck.

The post follows a recent remark by President Trump in which he jokingly told reporters on the White House lawn that he wouldn’t mind becoming the next pope. “I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice,” he said.

While he mentioned no specific preference for who should succeed Pope Francis, Trump did hint at Cardinal Timothy Dolan of New York, describing him as “very good.”

The Catholic Church is now in the process of selecting a new leader, after Pope Francis passed away on Easter Monday at age 88 from a stroke and heart failure.

The President’s post has received mixed responses, with some finding it humorous and others condemning it as distasteful.
