CFR Cluj forward Emmanuel Yeboah has his sights firmly set on their objectives of the tournament after leading his team to a triumphant start at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday.
After coming off the bench, Yeboah scored two goals and assisted another as the Black Meteors secured a 3-2 victory over Congo in their opening game of the qualification tournament for the Olympic Games in Paris.
Having missed out on Olympic qualification since 2004, Yeboah and his teammates have made it their primary target this time around. However, they also have their eyes on winning the entire tournament. Their next match against host nation Morocco on Tuesday presents an opportunity to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Morocco, who also started with a win, defeated Guinea with two late penalties.
Yeboah remains focused and determined, refusing to be carried away by their impressive performance on the first day.
“We have the coach, the staff, and the players to go all the way; it’s up to us to stay focused,” he asserted.
“When I saw the opponents we were going to face, I was delighted because they are powerhouses of African football. It is through such strong opposition that we progress. We couldn’t afford to falter today against Congo, and we will gain momentum as the tournament progresses.”
