The Special Education Students Association (SESA) of the University of Education, Winneba has handled its annual celebration with strong calls for effective implementation of policies towards inclusive education.
At the event which was marked with awesome musical, poetry and drama performances from students with disability, president of the Special Education Students Association, UEW, Solomon Mensah, strongly demanded for the removal of barriers and stereotypes of persons especially students with disabilities.
He called on tertiary schools to create supportive and inclusive environment to facilitate easy learning for special students.
“Most of our campuses are not environmental friendly for us special students. We carry our chairs to climb staircases to access lecture halls. Those who are visually impaired struggle to move freely on campus while their reading materials are not easily available also”- he told Ghana Weekend.
The event saw the attendance of members from other universities including the University of Cape Coast and UEW-Ajumako.
