Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Speed Stars produced a commanding performance to beat the Black Stars Legends 6-2 in a thrilling friendly at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf on Saturday, September 19, 2026.The emphatic victory capped an impressive period for the 2026 Bankers Football Gala champions, who added another trophy to their collection after overpowering a star-studded side featuring some of Ghanas most celebrated former starsLed by captain and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, the Speed Stars combined attacking purpose with clinical finishing to secure a comprehensive victory and claim the trophy and gold medals at the end of the contest.The fixture offered more than just competitive football, with music, food and entertainment creating a vibrant atmosphere as football personalities, corporate executives and supporters came together to celebrate the game and strengthen ties between the football and business communities.The Black Stars Legends, coached by George Alhassan, fielded a strong starting line-up, with former goalkeeper Sammy Adjei between the posts and John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Afo Dodoo and Jerry Akaminko forming the defensive unit.Mohammed Gargo and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu operated in midfield, with Godwin Attram playing in an advanced role, while Yaw Preko and Haminu Dramani provided width and Kwame Ayew led the attack.UMB Speed Stars also assembled an experienced line-up featuring Dennis Nyaku, Kingsley Sesenu, Christian Boakye, Richard Sarfo, Patrick Afrifa, Emmanuel Essien, Adu Francis, Abdul Rahman Musa, Samuel Sackey, Akplome Agbeshie and Christian Boakye Boateng, among others.The match was organised under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), providing a platform for former Black Stars players and UMB officials to reconnect through football while promoting stronger collaboration between the sporting and corporate sectors.The event was graced by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and GFA Director of Marketing Jamil Maraby.Dr. Oti-Mensah was accompanied by senior UMB officials, including Chief Operating Officer Justina Laing, Group Treasury representative Emmanuel Sackey, Group Finance and Strategy head Victor Dikro, and Divisional Head of Branch Network for the Accra, Eastern and Central Regions, Victoria Attipoe.Beyond the action on the pitch, UMB reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Ghana football with a GHS30,000 donation to the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG).UMB is an official Banking Partner of the Ghana Football Association and has further deepened its involvement in the sport after becoming the headline sponsor of the Division One League for the next three years.The partnership reflects the banks continued commitment to supporting the growth and development of Ghana football, while the Adjiringanor showcase provided another opportunity to celebrate the enduring connection between football and the corporate community.
