Police have launched an investigation into the deaths of a 57-year-old man and his 47-year-old niece at NTHC Estate in Sakumono, Greater Accra Region, following a reported dispute over a GH¢500,000 debt.

The victims have been identified as George Atuguba and Irene Atuguba.

In a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026, Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Regional Police Command, said officers were sent to the residence after the Sakumono District Police Command received information about the incident. The victims were found lying in a pool of blood, the statement said.

Preliminary police investigations suggest the incident may have stemmed from a financial dispute involving George Atuguba, who had allegedly borrowed GH¢500,000 from a suspect and failed to repay it. Police identified the suspect as Samuel Christopher Osei Anto.

The suspect reportedly went to the victims’ residence on the morning of the incident with a woman identified as Beatrice Mumuni to demand repayment. A misunderstanding allegedly followed, during which the suspect shot and killed George Atuguba and Irene Atuguba.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

Police said the victims were taken to hospital, where a medical officer pronounced them dead. Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The Accra Regional Police Command said efforts were underway to apprehend the suspect.
