The number of unemployed people in Germany fell by 15,000 in February compared to the previous month, but remained above the 3-million mark, at 3.07 million.

Official data released on Friday showed that compared to a year ago, there were 81,000 more unemployed people in February.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to 6.5% in February compared to January. Compared to the previous year, it is 0.1 percentage points higher.

“Even at the end of the winter break, the labour market is not gaining momentum. Unemployment has barely changed,” said Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency.

There has been virtually no change in companies’ demand for labour. The number of vacancies registered with the Federal Employment Agency fell by just 1,000 to 638,000 compared to the previous year.

The statistics were based on data available up to February 11.
