The Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly has presented bunk beds, dual desks, tables and chairs to selected schools in the Municipality.
Tarkwa Senior High School received 100 bunk beds, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Tarkwa had 300 tables and chairs, and the Municipal Education Directorate also received 240 teacher’s tables and chairs, and 40 hexagonal tables and chairs for distribution to some schools in the area.
The items were funded from the Assembly’s Internally Generated Fund (IGF), Minerals Development Fund (MDF) and the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DCAF).
The presentation was made by Mr. Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Mr. George Mireku Duker, the Member of Parliament for Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency,
At the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Tarkwa, Mr. Mireku Duker, who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, said the donation was to fulfill a pledge he made to the school.
“I know you have challenges, and the Principal has already outlined them to me, as a listening government we will make sure we support the school and make it enviable in future,” the MP said.
Mr. Benjamin Kessie, on his part revealed that the move was to help students within the municipality feel comfortable in their various classrooms and dormitories so they would study hard.
He said because of the free Senior High School programme, enrollment in second cycle institutions had increased, and as leaders they would continue to support schools in their locality to ensure the success of the programme.
Madam Catherine Biney, Municipal Education Director, expressed appreciation to the Assembly and the MP, said the items would directly benefit students in the municipality.
She called for proper maintenance culture to ensure that the items donated to the beneficiary schools are kept in good condition.
Madam Patience Asare, the Vice Principal of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Tarkwa thanked the donors for the furniture.
