This year’s Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit is expected to redirect focus of the youth to see value in agriculture to reduce poverty, unemployment and to create sustainable wealth, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Agricwealth, and convenor of Ghana Youth Agriculture Summit Rev.Evans Kyere Mensah has said.
According to him, agriculture is the biggest sector that can absorb lots of unemployed people and generate income for the country, to boost its development agenda and economy.
Therefore, when the sector is strengthened, other sectors of the economy, especially the industrial sector, would also be boosted and propel the economy to a higher pedestal.
This year’s summit which has been scheduled for 1st April 2023 is be on the theme: “Agriculture for Economic Transformation and Sustainable Development with focus on youth, women and climate”.
The Convener for the summit, Rev. Evans Kyere Mensah, told the B&FT that his outfit has partnered both development organisations and government agencies, to foster a healthy relationship and collaboration as a means to assist as many youths as possible.
On what participants should expect at the event, Mr. Kyere Mensah, explained that they would be impacted and enlightened on the potentials and opportunities around them that hitherto they had little or no knowledge about.
These opportunities he believes would give the youth economic empowerment and also help transition them to end poverty by breaking the unemployment cycle and also contribute to the development agenda of the country.
Rev. Kyere Mensah, further observed that all participants of the summit would have a renewal of mind and would see themselves as agents of change to the trajectory of the country’s agriculture system thereby, boosting the rural economy and the general economy of the country.
He noted that several speakers from academia and industry have been put on the bill who would be speaking on different topics to ensure that participants are empowered enough to be self-sustaining agricultural entrepreneurs.
The summit will be held at the Kumaplay Auditorium of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
Speakers include: Deputy Minister for Finance, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, Chief Executive Officer, Business and Financial Times (B&FT), Dr. Godwin Acquaye; Chief Executive Officer, National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah and Executive Director, Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Ben Boakye.
Others include; Matilda Owusu-Bio of CARISCA KNUST; Business Lawyer, Richard Nunukpeku Esq; Doris Ahiati, Executive Coach and Farmer and many others.
