Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has challenged African filmmakers to embrace greater professionalism and strategic storytelling during the inaugural Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025, positioning the continent’s cinema for global competition.

Speaking at the festival in Accra, she emphasized that African narratives must balance cultural authenticity with international appeal. “Our stories are rich, authentic, and powerful. But they must be told with the excellence they deserve if we are to claim our rightful place in the global film industry,” the Vice President declared.

She urged creators to prioritize depth, quality, and purpose in their work. African films, she argued, should showcase the continent’s diverse voices while meeting rigorous production standards to compete with Hollywood and Bollywood.

She also appealed to investors for sustainable, long-term funding. The Vice President highlighted the industry’s potential to create jobs, boost cultural diplomacy, and drive GDP growth across Africa.
