Vice President has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of senior citizens through policies and programmes that promote their care, dignity and wellbeing.

In a statement after attending this year’s Republic Day celebration with senior citizens alongside President , the Vice President paid tribute to the men and women whose dedication, courage and patriotism contributed to Ghana’s development.

She said the occasion also provided an opportunity to remember victims of the recent floods, express solidarity with affected families and encourage Ghanaians to continue supporting one another during the recovery efforts.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Ghanaians through initiatives such as the (MahamaCares), which aims to reduce the financial burden of healthcare.

She also encouraged senior citizens to consider insurance and other financial security measures to better prepare for retirement.

The Vice President further urged Ghanaians to preserve the country’s tradition of respect for the elderly and the extended family system while embracing modernisation and innovation.
