The voters register exhibition exercise by the Electoral Commission has commenced in all polling stations across the country.

Representatives of political parties were absent on the first day of the exercise as low turnout was recorded at most centres.

The Electoral Commission commenced the voters’register exhibition exercise in all 33,367 polling stations across the country to enable the prospective voters cross-check their names in the provisional register.

In the Odododiodoo Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, the registered voters did not show up in their numbers.

Representatives of political parties were also not present at the polling stations on the first day of the exercise.

The Jamestown police station hosts two centers; polling station 1 and 2.

As at 11:00am on day one, both centres have recorded only five people going through the process.

Polling station one had 263 voters on the provisional register with 2 names on the exception list while polling station 2 had list of 236 eligible voters.

29 people transferred their votes out of the polling station while 15 came in.

At the Sacred Heart Technical Institute polling center, the situation is no different.

Out of the 740 people captured in the register, only 6 had checked their names as of midday.

The Akanmajen Mantse palace hosts three polling stations: polling station 1A, 1B and polling station 2.

Here, registered constituents were seen going about their daily activities in the community with no interest in the process.

Motsoo and her neigbour have decided not to partake in the exercise.

“I don’t even have time to go and check my name in the register, because my work is more important to me. I will not earn any income when I go to check my name,” Motsoo said.

Her closest neighbor also indicated that “I will not go and check my name in the register because those we will vote for do not care about us except their families. I don’t care if my name is in the register or not. What I have decided on is final.”

But Lovelace Nii Lamptey Wallace-Bruce holds a different view.

According to him people will turnout to partake in the exercise on Day 2.

He said “I have not checked my name, but I will do that in the coming days because I am busy today.”

The Electoral Commission has opened a seven-day window to clean the register of the December 7 elections.

However, people whose names will appear on the exception list will automatically be disqualified from partaking in the polls in December.
