Cameroon reached the final of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 on Wednesday after beating hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties following a dramatic goalless semi-final.The Indomitable Lionesses held their nerve during the shootout at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium after neither side could find a breakthrough at the end of the 120 minutes.Morocco were left to rue a missed opportunity in extra time when Fatima Tagnaout failed to convert a penalty that could have changed the outcome of the contest. With the match still goalless after extra time, the semi-final was decided from the penalty spot.Cameroon converted three of their four attempts through Marie Ngah, Rose Bella and Myriam Nyadjou.Morocco, meanwhile, scored only once, with Hanane Ait El Haj converting their opening effort. The pressure then mounted on the hosts as Kenza Chapelle, Meryem Atiq and Sakina Ouzraoui all missed their penalties, allowing Cameroon to secure a 3-1 shootout victory. The defeat ends Morocco’s hopes of reaching the WAFCON final for a third consecutive edition. The Atlas Lionesses had been among the tournament favourites after reaching the final in the previous two editions, but they could not find the decisive goal against a disciplined Cameroon defence.Tagnaout’s missed penalty during extra time proved particularly costly as Morocco failed to take advantage of their opportunity to settle the contest before the shootout.Cameroon will face Malawi in Sunday’s final, with the Scorchers having reached the showpiece match after defeating Algeria 3-1 in the other semi-final.
