Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjrkegren has expressed confidence in his squad ahead of Ghanas opening fixture at the 2026 CAF Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana will begin their Group D campaign against tournament debutants Cape Verde today at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, with the Swedish tactician backing his players to make a strong start.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Bjrkegren praised the teams commitment, tactical awareness and determination, insisting the Black Queens have the qualities needed to compete at the highest level.
We will see a Black Queens team that will go for the attack. I will say we are the best high-pressing team in Africa. I know we have a strong defence. I really believe in this group of girls. They will do everything to win the game, he said.
The coach believes Ghanas attacking approach, combined with defensive solidity, will be key as they aim to make a positive impression in the tournament.
After their clash with Cape Verde, the Black Queens will face Cameroon on Sunday, August 2, before concluding their group-stage matches against Mali on Thursday, August 6.
Ghana, who won bronze at the previous edition of the WAFCON, are aiming for a deeper run this year as they seek to secure qualification for the FIFA Womens World Cup scheduled to be held in Brazil next year.
