WAFU B African Schools Football Championship: Ghana duo win Goal King Awards

Ghanaian duo Cyril Acquah Hagan and Christiana Ashiaku finished the WAFU B African Schools Football Championship as top scorers in the boys and girls division respectively.

Cyril Acquah Hagan bagged three goals in four matches while Christian Ashiaku scored four goals in four matches to emerge top scorers after the Championship, concluded in Niamey, Niger, on Saturday November 23, 2024.

In the girls U15 division, the battle for the title was just as intense with Benin, Cote D’voire, Niger, and Burkina Faso vying for the top spot.

However, it was Ghana who ultimately claimed the championship, showcasing their strength and talent on the field.

In the Boys Division, Ghana claimed third place after beating Burkina Faso 1-0 to grab bronze.

The WAFU B qualifiers dd not only provide an exciting platform for these youngsters to compete and showcase their skills, but also highlighted the immense potential and talent that exists in African schools football.

These young players are a testament to the bright future of African football.

A total of six WAFU B nations participated in both the boys and girls divisions of the tournament, where Ghana have been crowned champions of the zone in the Girls Division and secured a place at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals set to take place in 2025.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is in line with CAF’s indicated intent to develop successive generations of African football stars from the grassroots stage so as to provide them with a strong foundation for potential success in the foreseeable future.

The CAF African Schools Football Champions is a first of its kind in world football, with the innovative youth football competition reaching over 800 000 thousand young African boys and girls in its third season.
