The Black Satellites have completed their preparations ahead of their final Group B match against Togo at the 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship, with head coach Maxwell Konadu hoping to see his side finish the tournament on a high.
Ghana held their final training session on Saturday in Yamoussoukro, Cte d’Ivoire, as the team fine-tuned preparations for Sunday’s clash at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
Konadu oversaw an intensive session focused on tactical organisation, attacking movements and finishing drills as the technical team sought to sharpen the players ahead of the decisive encounter.
The Black Satellites go into the game eager to secure their first victory of the tournament after managing just one point from their opening two fixtures.
Ghana began their campaign with a 4-2 defeat to reigning champions Nigeria before producing a determined display to earn a 1-1 draw against Burkina Faso. The Satellites showed great resilience in that contest, battling for long periods with ten men to claim a valuable point.
With progression in the competition no longer possible, Konadu is expected to rotate his squad and hand opportunities to several players who have seen limited action during the tournament. However, the former Ghana international remains keen to field a competitive team capable of ending the campaign with all three points.
Despite the disappointing results, the tournament has served as an important step in Ghana’s preparations for the 2027 TotalEnergies CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, which the country will host.
Having already secured automatic qualification for the continental championship as hosts, the Black Satellites have used the regional competition to evaluate the squad, strengthen tactical understanding and build cohesion among the players.
The WAFU B U-20 Championship has also offered the technical team a valuable opportunity to assess the team’s progress in a competitive environment, with lessons from the tournament expected to play a key role in shaping Ghana’s preparations for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations on home soil.
