Mubarak Wakaso has released a statement regarding the whereabouts of his Black Stars teammate and friend, Christian Atsu, following Monday’s earthquake in Turkey.

According to Atsu’s club Hatayspor, he was found alive on Tuesday after being missing for 26 hours and believed to be trapped under wreckage.

However, there was a subsequent update that the player’s location was unknown after he was reportedly taken to the hospital for treatment.

In his statement, Wakaso urges the public to avoid spreading false information and to show respect for Atsu’s family by only sharing verified information.

“Following yesterday’s update from the club that, Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.

“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family and we are doing everything we can to locate Christian.

“Official updates will be provided as more information comes to light. Please respect the family’s privacy during this harrowing time, and refrain from spreading unsubstantiated news as this will only hamper the search efforts for Christian.

“Thank you for all your prayers and support.”
